04.04.23 • Since February 2023, we at SEW-EURODRIVE have been offering the IE5 solutions with the DR2C.. Synchronous motors for pure inverter operation. Readers of the magazines Computer & Automation and Industrial Production don't seem to have missed out: They chose our particularly low-loss and therefore sustainable motor variant at the 1st Place in the drive technology and automation category. We are very pleased with these awards for the "Product of the Year 2023".
The synchronous motors of the DR2C.. Series meet the highest efficiency class IE5 defined by the standards for variable-speed drives. For many applications in transport and logistics as well as in production technology, this offers a lower-loss and therefore a lower-cost solution for operating costs compared to the traditional IE3 asynchronous motor on the grid. And the DR2C.. is also particularly sustainable. After all, the synchronous motor uses smaller, but less better material in comparison, and it achieves energy savings with a virtually lossless rotor. This significantly lower thermal load has a positive effect on its service life.
Currently, the synchronous motors of the DR2C.. series are available for IE5 solutions with power ratings from 0.69 to 3.5 kW. In the course of 2023, additional motor sizes with power ratings of up to 11 kW will be added.
